Veteran Kiser Returns to Stingrays Lineup

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that the team has signed defenseman Nate Kiser. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Kiser, 28, appeared in 50 games last season earning a goal and 10 assists for 11 points and recorded 94 penalty minutes. The Southgate, MI native sits fourth in team history with 342 regular season games played and second with 1,006 PIM.

"Nate brings value to our team in many different ways," said MacLean. "He is a steady presence on the blue line, his ability and willingness to stand up for his teammates is second to none and he provides veteran leadership. We can count on Nate to be a leader who will hold himself and his teammates to a very high standard that hinges upon work ethic and results."

Since joining the Stingrays for the 2004-05 season, Kiser registered 20 goals and 83 assist for 103 points and tallied 11 points (3g, 8a) in 51 playoff contests. A 5th round draft pick by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Kiser began his professional career with the Dayton Bombers in 2003-04 compiling 15 points (5g, 10a) in 63 games.

Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-1, 225-pound defenseman spent four years with the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth Whalers, totaling 41 points (13g, 28a) and 473 penalty minutes in 137 junior games.

The Stingrays drop the puck on their 18th season of hockey in the Low Country on Friday, October 22 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:35 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Opening Weekend is set for Friday, November 5, Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7 against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum.
