Wichita Force News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Force has announced the re-signing of veteran defensive back Chris Hemphill for the 2017 season.

Hemphill appeared in 5 games for the Force, before suffering a season ending knee injury against the Texas Revolution on April 9th. Hemphill made 30 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, and intercepted 1 pass, which he returned for a touchdown against the Salina Liberty in the season opener.

Hemphill joined the Force in week 9 of the 2015 season, after spending the first part of the season with the Billings Wolves of the IFL. In 5 games with the Force, including the playoff loss to Texas, Hemphill totaled 26 tackles, forced 1 fumble, and had 2 pass break ups.

At 6'5 and 240 lbs, Hemphill has great size and athleticism for a defensive back. His knack for making big hits has earned him the nickname "Hitstick", a term football video gamers should know well. Hemphill joins an already loaded Force secondary with returning starters Kendrick Harper, Dontra Matthews, Kiaree Daniels, and newcomer Darien Anderson.

A native of Los Angeles, Cali., Hemphill played four years at Washington University where started as a safety for the Huskies. Hemphill earned Academic All-American honors in 2004. In his professional career, Hemphill has spent time with the Buffalo Bills where he was later released due to an injury in training camp. Over the past 6 season, he has played with various arena teams including the Orlando Predators (AFL), Spokane Shock (AFL) and former Wichita Wild (CPIFL). In 2013, Hemphill recorded 61 tackles, six interceptions, three pass breakups, one defended pass and one touchdown for the CPIFL champion Wichita Wild.

Season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online at www.selectaseat.com or by calling 316.425.3009. For the latest player signings and more information on the Force, visit www.wichitaforce.com, like the team on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter (@wichitaforce).
