Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced Thursday that they have re-signed defenseman Giffen Nyren for the 2016-17 season. The 6-foot, 185-pound blueliner notched five goals and 16 assists in 38 contests with Colorado last season.
"Giffen's ability to play up front, as well as along the blue line provided us with a tremendous amount of versatility last season," said Eagles head coach Aaron Schneekloth. "His energy and scoring touch will be something that we will look forward to having on the ice again this year."
The Calgary, Alberta native has played as both a defenseman and as a forward during his career and spent four seasons in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Kamloops Blazers and Calgary Hitmen. Nyren posted 125 points in 269 games at the major junior level, including 28 goals. He also captured a WHL championship with the Hitmen in 2010.
Nyren went on to register 45 points in 50 games with the University of Calgary and has also seen action in 29 ECHL contests with the Utah Grizzlies, collecting 10 points and 57 penalty minutes during the 2010-11 season. Nyren has appeared in 15 AHL games, registering four points with the Abbotsford Heat in the 2010-11 campaign.
"I can't wait to put on that uniform and get back to Eagles country to play in front of the best fans in the ECHL," said Nyren. "I'm really proud to be an Eagle, so I'm very excited to get it going again."
Season tickets for the 2016-17 season are on-sale now and can be reserved with a $50 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468). The 2016-17 regular season home schedule kicks off on Saturday, October 15th when the Eagles host the Rapid City Rush. A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
