Vazquez Transferred To Trenton; Smith To DL

(TRENTON NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that INF Jorge Vazquez has reinstated from the Triple A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre Yankees Disabled List and has been transferred to Trenton. In addition, INF Kevin Smith has been placed on the DL retroactive to May 30.

Vazquez, 28, made his Double-A debut with Trenton in 2009 and hit .329 with 13 HR and 56 RBI in 57 games for the Thunder. He was a ten year veteran of the Mexican League, recording at least a .300 average and 15 home runs in each of his final five season.

Smith, 26, has played in 32 games this season with Trenton and has a .175 batting average with 3 RBI. Smith was selected by the New York Yankees in the 39th round (1184th overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

The Thunder begin a six game homestand tonight and will host the Portland Sea Dogs in a three game series. Trenton will have RHP Hector Noesi (0-0, 7.50) against TBA for Portland. All the action can be heard on the Thunder flagship station 107.7 FM or online at www.trentonthunder.com
