Brampton Beast News Release
KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN - Brampton Beast forward David Vallorani lit the lamp 1:33 into the extra period to lift the Beast to a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo on Saturday night.
Brandon MacLean scored a pair of goals and defenseman Paul Cianfrini scored his first as a member of the Beast, while Alex Foster and Chris Leveille each recorded two assists to lift the Beast to victory.
Neither team wasted any time finding their scoring touch in the opening frame. Brandon Marino netted his team-leading eighth goal of the season just 1:31 into the contest, converting on a perfect goalmouth feed from Chris Leveille. With the assist, Leveille extended his point streak to nine games.
Justin Taylor responded with his first of the night at 5:20 but the Beast would pull ahead again just moments later. MacLean found some open ice and sped down the left wing on a partial breakaway. His first attempt was thwarted by Wings starter Joel Martin but he kept whacking until the puck rolled over the goal line at 5:42.
Taylor scored again with four minutes to go in the first period to tie the game 2-2 heading into the first intermission.
The scoring continued into the second period. Cianfrini scored his first as a member of the Beast as he sent a laser of a wrist shot into the top corner from the left circle, restoring the Beast lead at 2:12.
Jimmy Mullin tied the game for Kalamazoo at 6:46 but the resilient Beast would claw back and take the lead again later in the second frame.
MacLean accepted a great feed in tight from Luc Olivier Blain and roofed home his second of the night at 15:31.
The Beast would carry their lead into the late stages of the third period before the scrappy K-Wings would tie the game off the stick of Tyler Heinonen with less than two minutes remaining in regulation time to force overtime.
It took just over a minute for the Beast to end the game. Matt Petgrave intercepted a pass and sent Vallorani in alone on a breakaway. Vallorani placed a perfect shot off the post and in, giving the Beast the victory.
