October 19, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Chicago Steel News Release
GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - In his third start of the season, Chicago goaltender Ales Stezka picked up his third shutout, stopping all 26 shots from Green Bay in a 3-0 victory Wednesday at Resch Center. The Steel remain unbeaten at 7-0-0-0 (14 pts.) and Stezka has now stopped all 85 combined shots he has faced this season, tying the Steel single-season record for shutouts. Right wing Johnny Walker extended his goal-scoring streak to four games, while Baker Shore's fourth tally of the season put him in sole possession of the goal-scoring lead amongst USHL rookies. Reilly Walsh also tallied his first goal with the Steel in the victory. The Steel victory put a halt to the four-game win streak of the Gamblers (5-3-0-0).
Chicago opened the scoring when Walker sent the puck to the slot and Shore sent a wrist shot past Green Bay goaltender Maksim Zhukov at 6:22. On the power play, the Steel advanced the lead to 2-0 when Walsh picked up his first of the season, burying a rebound over a diving Zhukov at 13:06. Chicago led 2-0 at the first intermission, doubling Green Bay in shots, 16-8.
The second period saw a couple of power play chances each way but neither team was able to light the lamp. Green Bay outshot the Steel 9-7 in the frame but Chicago maintained its 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.
On a delayed call against the Gamblers, Chicago brought on the extra attacker. Walsh made a pass to the slot and Walker skated to the net, firing home his team-leading fifth goal of the season at 9:43. The goal was scored on one of just four Chicago shots registered in the third period. Stezka remained a brick wall to secure the three-goal road victory.
Next up for the Steel is a Friday road game at Cedar Rapids. Chicago then returns home Saturday, Oct. 22 vs. Omaha. Face off against the Lancers is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It's the first Family Pack game of season - purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and four chuck-a-pucks starting at just $48! The night is a Halloween Costume Preview; fans can trick or treat with the Steel plus receive full-team autographs after the game.
