Chicago Sky News Release

CHICAGO - The Chicago Sky has selected Universal School as the ninth weekly winner of its 2016 "High School Team of the Week" program. They receive the honor after being nominated for their accomplishments on the court, in the classroom and in the community.

The Universal Stars won the Metro Prep Conference Title after going undefeated with a 17-0 conference record. Additionally, the varsity team advanced to the IHSA Regional Finals. They finished the regular season with an overall record of 20-6.

The student-athletes have maintained a 3.75 team grade point average while dedicating time to practices, games and serving the community. The players volunteer with groups to provide clothing and food to homeless and refugee families in Chicago. They also support other students at Universal through the school's tutoring program and by volunteering with the elementary and middle school level sports teams.

As a Chicago Sky "High School Basketball Team of the Week" award winner, the Universal Stars are invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world's best female basketball players. At halftime of the game, the team will be honored at center court.

All teams that compete in IHSA class 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A competitions are eligible to win a weekly honor. Nominations from parents, coaches, school faculty members and players are welcome and should be completed on the Chicago Sky website (www.chicagosky.net) through February 22.

At the end of the 10-week program, each weekly winning team will be entered to win the "High School Team of the Year" award for 2016. The winner, determined through online voting, will be announced on Opening Night 2016.
