Union Sign Derrick Jones, Ryan Richter to Short-Term Agreements

CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union have announced the signing of Derrick Jones and Ryan Richter to short-term agreements ahead of Wednesday night's friendly against Crystal Palace. Both members are currently with Bethlehem Steel FC and will return to the club following Wednesday's match.

Jones has started 15 games for Bethlehem Steel FC this season. He's registered two goals and one assist and is fourth on the team in minutes played with 1,250. A product of the Philadelphia Union Academy, Jones became the first player to ever sign with expansion Steel FC on Dec. 3, 2015. During the 2015-16 academy season, Jones played in 12 games, started nine and scored three goals before signing his professional contract. He had eight goals in 21 starts during the 2014-15 season.

Richter has played every single minute for Steel FC this season, starting all 17 games for 1,530 minutes. The 27-year-old right back also leads Steel with three goals this season. A 2011 Supplemental Draft selection by the Union, Richter has appeared in 13 career MLS matches for Toronto FC.

MLS clubs may sign players from their USL affiliate to short-term agreements (up to four-day contracts) for CONCACAF Champions League, AMWAY Canadian Championship, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and exhibition matches. An MLS club may sign a player to a maximum of four short-term agreements each season (maximum of 16 days).
