Ulysses Curtis and Dave Mann named to all-time Argo list

Toronto - The Toronto Argonauts Alumni Association is pleased to announce that former Argonauts Dave Mann and Ulysses Curtis will be named All-Time Argos at Thursday's game vs. Hamilton at the Rogers Centre. These two additions bring the total number of All-Time Argos to 16.

Ulysses ‘Crazy Legs' Curtis, who was an Argo from 1950 to 1954, set the benchmark for future Argonauts running backs. His unorthodox running style garnered him the nickname ‘Crazy Legs' but carried him to several Argonauts records. He is still one of only three Argos to rush for more than 200 yards in a single game and is third in club history with twelve 100+ yard rushing games. Curtis is also sixth in touchdowns scored all-time by an Argonaut and his season-high 994 rushing yards is still seventh highest in team history.

Curtis was also a trailblazer for black athletes into the CFL. In college, he was selected to the Black All-American Team and was the first player of African descent to ever wear Double Blue. He won two Grey Cup Championships while in Toronto and participated in the now infamous Mud Bowl. Curtis played in 57 regular season games and 9 playoff contests and was named a Conference All-Star three times with the Argonauts.

Crazy Legs lives in Toronto and is now retired after a 30-year career with the North York Board of Education in teaching and administration. Curtis is an active member of the Alumni Association and regularly attends home games.

Dave Mann played for the Argonauts in 1958, then from 1960-1970 and was one of the most versatile players to ever wear Double Blue. He excelled as both a punter and a kicker and earned the nickname ‘Superman' for his multi-talented efforts. Mann competed in 153 regular season games and 13 playoff games for the Boatmen and was twice named an East Division All-Star in 1960 and 1961.

Born in Berkley, California, Mann attended college at Oregon State University. He experienced an accomplished career at Oregon where he was a running back and punter. Mann's talent led him to the National Football League where played three seasons with the Chicago Cardinals before coming to Canada.

Mann led the League in receiving in 1960 and 1961 and led the CFL in punting in six seasons. His 102-yard punt on September 18, 1966 is still the second longest in CFL history and his 44.2 yard average is fifth best all-time. The adaptable Argonaut also holds several club records including the highest single-season receiving yards average in the history of the team (22.7 yds/catch) and the fifth most touchdowns scored in a single season. Mann is also third in career punting yards by an Argo with 55,745 yards and is fourth in career punting average.

Dave Mann settled in Toronto after his playing days were over and has since moved to Wolfeville, Nova Scotia.

His most telling record is that he's one of only three Argonauts to run for more than 200 yards in a single game. Dave was an outstanding all-around athlete who was an all-star receiver and outstanding punter. He still holds the record for the second longest punt in CFL history."

The 2004 Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, having celebrated their 130th anniversary in 2003.
