Jupiter, FL - Tyler Mahle etched his name in the record book by tossing his first career no-hitter against the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium Monday night. Mahle allowed just one baserunner over his nine shutout innings while striking out six.

The only Hammerhead to reach base was Brian Schales, who was hit by a pitch with one out in the third inning. Daytona manager Eli Marrero argued that the ball hit the bat, but Schales was given first base after showing home plate umpire Ronnie Whiting where it hit his left hand. Mahle followed by inducing an inning-ending double play groundout from Justin Bohn one batter later.

Mahle faced the minimum over the nine innings, striking out Bohn to complete the no-hitter in the ninth. It's the first solo nine-inning no-hitter in the Florida State League since Matt Loosen tossed one for the Daytona Cubs on July 8, 2013, against the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Mahle used a season-high 106 pitches, throwing 76 for strikes. The game was played in 1:56, the shortest nine-inning Daytona game since May 1, 2013.

Jupiter has been involved in both no-hitters in the FSL this year, having tossed a combined no-hitter at Roger Dean Stadium earlier this year, using four pitchers.

There have now been 20 no-hitters thrown in the history of Minor League baseball in Daytona Beach, with the first one coming in 1948. Only nine have been nine-inning no-hitters done by a single pitcher. Overall, It's the eighth no-hitter since 1993, the Daytona Cubs inaugural season, and the first in Tortugas history.

Daytona won the game, 4-0, scoring two runs in the first inning and two in the eighth on an Aristides Aquino home run. The Tortugas continue their series Tuesday with Jupiter with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM at Roger Dean Stadium. Coverage will begin at 6:15 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
