Game Story

In a turn of what we're used to seeing from the Pats and Hurricanes, the scoreboard remained clean with both teams unable to find the back of the net. Not to say they didn't have chances. Right off the bat, Ryley Lindgren broke in alone on Tyler Brown who turned the Hurricanes forward aside. The Pats best scoring chance came off a nifty passing setup, finishing with Sam Steel who was robbed by Stuart Skinner flying across.

The tight checking game continued into the second period, but the WHL's leading scorer was able to break the deadlock. Battling in the corner, Riley Woods was able to free the puck then slide it between his legs, on the backhand, to Adam Brooks who walked around the net before firing the puck to the back of the net. Brown was forced to come up with some big stops midway through the frame. Overall he made eight saves in the period. In a momentum turning shift, the Pats went on the attack while down a man. The Blue and White spent nearly one minute in the offensive zone on the penalty kill and at the conclusion of the penalty, Brooks rang a shot off the crossbar. The Pats carried their 1-0 lead to the break.

Early in the third, the Pats gave themselves a 2-0 edge. Austin Wagner fired a breakaway feed to Brooks and he snuck a shot by Skinner just 1:35 in. The Pats continued to play well in their own end with their back-end and Tyler Brown coming up large time after time. With the net empty late, Sam Steel ensured Cole Sanford's shot ended up in the yawning cage to leave the Pats ahead 3-0 and heading home with a road split.
