South Georgia Wildcats News Release

August 6, 2008, ALBANY, GA- As the South Georgia Wildcats put the finishing touches on a successful but bittersweet 2008 season, individual accolades begin to roll in. Two players fill three positions on the American Conference All-af2 First Team. Wide receiver and kick returner extraordinaire PJ Berry earns first-team recognition as a Wide Receiver and as a Special Teams contributor. Defensive back Roland Cola also earns first-team recognition for his accomplishments in the secondary.

PJ Berry electrified Wildcats' fans all year as he amassed over 3,000 yards of total offense. As a receiver, Berry caught 92 passes totaling 1,425 yards and including 28 touchdown receptions. As a kick returner, Berry scored 6 touchdowns on his way to accumulating 1,753 return yards. Just for good measure, PJ added 2 rushing touchdowns as well.

"PJ took his opportunity to make an impact this year and really ran with it, literally," said Head Coach Derek Stingley. "I don't think there's any doubt that he deserves and will be in the AFL next year."

The unquestioned leader of the Wildcats stingy defense was Roland Cola. Cola registered a league-best 99.5 tackles on the season. Cola also set a franchise record with 10 interceptions on the season. He led the team in pass break-ups with 21 as well. That's a stat that Coach Stingley is never very happy with, but it goes a long way towards proving just how active and around the ball Roland was all season long.

"Roland is such an athletic player, that I knew once he really understood the arena game, he'd be one of the better defensive backs in this league," said Head Coach Derek Stingley. "He is one of the toughest players (pound for pound) I've ever been around."

Stay tuned for more league awards as they continue to be announced leading up to the ArenaCup.
