Two Rough Innings Haunt Mallards in Green Bay

Green Bay, WI - June 19, 2013. The Green Bay Bullfrogs (9-13) scored four runs in the sixth off of three different Mallards pitchers and tacked on three more in the eighth off of reliever Shawn Hunter (Oklahoma State) to help secure an 8-3 victory against the Madison Mallards (12-8) Wednesday night.
Mallards starter Cody Peterson (Madison College) entered the sixth inning but couldn't get an out and was relieved by Ben Neumann (Northern Illinois). They each allowed two runs in the inning and Kristian Calibuso (Eastern Michigan) also allowed a run on one hit. He allowed two walks in the frame.
Nick Smith (Western Illinois) got the last out in the inning and also pitched the seventh. He struck out two and didn't allow a hit.
Hunter allowed a walk and four hits in his one inning of work.
The Mallards scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Designated hitter Mike Fitzgerald (Indiana State) drove in Joe McCarthy (Virginia) with a single in the fourth, McCarthy homered in the fifth and catcher Jason Goldstein (Illinois) drove in Fitzgerald with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Neumann was tagged with the loss for the Mallards and drops to 0-1 on the year. Johnathon Tripp (Texas Tech) picked up the win for the Bullfrogs and improves to 3-0.
McCarthy led the Mallards in his season debut by going 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored. Shortstop Mike Reuvekamp (California) and No. 9 hitter Erik Forgione (Washington) were the two other Mallards with multiple hits on the night. Reuvekamp finished 2-for-5 while Forgione went 2-for-4.
Trevin Sonnier (TCU) and Cabe Reiten (Gonzaga) bolstered the Bullfrogs offense by each recording two hits and knocking in a pair of runs.
The Mallards return home Thursday, June 20th against the Bullfrogs. Verno's Custom Tattoo Night will be that night.
