Two-Out Hitting Pushes Suns Past Power

Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Suns tallied six two-out RBIs and James Bourque retired 15 consecutive batters en route to a 6-3 victory for the Hagerstown Suns (18-13, 56-44) over the West Virginia Power (16-16, 46-52) on Thursday night at Municipal Stadium.

Nick Banks and Tres Barrera opened the scoring with back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the fourth and Telmito Agustin beat out a groundball to second base in the fifth that scored Oliver Ortiz to give Hagerstown a 3-0 lead against West Virginia starter Mike Wallace (Loss, 2-5).

The Power tallied just two base hits and a walk against Bourque (Win, 5-5) through the first six innings. The 23-year-old righty from Ann Arbor, Michigan carried the 3-0 lead into the seventh when the Power tested him for the first time with a leadoff walk and a fielding error that put two runners aboard with nobody out. Nick King laid down a sacrifice bunt and Bourque tried an aggressive throw to third but it squirted away for an error that scored Ryan Nagel.

AJ Bogucki (Hold, 2) inherited runners at second and third from Bourque and struck out Kevin Mahala before Ortiz made a diving catch on a sac fly to left that scored Trae Arbet to make it 3-2. Bogucki left the tying runner at second and Bourque remained in line for the win after throwing six innings with two runs on two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Hagerstown added insurance runs in the seventh with another two-out rally. Angelo La Bruna threaded the needle with an RBI double down the left field line and Perkins immediately followed with a knockout punch on his seventh home run of the season that carried into the right-center field bullpen for a 6-2 cushion.

Perkins led the Suns with two runs batted in on Thursday and pushed his RBI count to six in the last five games. Jake Noll and Agustin each went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Bogucki finished his night with two scoreless innings of relief, pushing his shutout streak to 13 straight frames before Jake Arnett made his Hagerstown debut and recorded the final three outs. The 22-year-old lefty, who earned a promotion from the Auburn Doubledays on Thursday, allowed a triple and a sac fly.
