Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
MEMPHIS, TENN. -The Colorado Springs Sky Sox hit two home runs to back Taylor Jungmann's quality start and defeat the Memphis Redbirds, 6-2, in front of 6,269 at AutoZone Park Thursday night.
Jungmann (3-0, 1.27) earned a win in his third straight outing by shutting down the Redbirds over seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts. Wei-Chung Wang and David Goforth closed out the game for the Sox, who escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth.
Brett Phillips launched his 12th home run of the season on a 1-2 offering from Memphis starter Mike Mayers into the right field picnic area to break a 1-1 tie and give the Sox a 4-1 lead. His first home run since coming back to the Sox from Milwaukee, Phillips re-took the team home run lead after Garrett Cooper tied the outfielder with his solo shot Wednesday night.
Colorado Springs (39-26) bounced back from an early 1-0 deficit with a single run in the third inning. Ivan De Jesus drove in his 26th run of the season on the third consecutive single of the frame, scoring Kyle Wren with one out.
The third baseman added to his RBI total with a solo home run to left-center field to increase the lead to 5-1. Batting in the third spot for the third time this season, De Jesus clubbed his third home run of 2017, with all three coming away from Security Service Field.
Nate Orf added to the lead with an eighth-inning insurance run. The second baseman had a three-hit night for the fourth time this season and grounded a RBI single off shortstop Alex Mejia to increase the Sox margin to five runs.
The Sox aim for a series split in Memphis for the second time in 2017 when RHP Angel Ventura (1-0, 3.00) takes the mound against Memphis RHP John Gant (0-1, 3.12) in the season finale between the two teams in West Tennessee.
