Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release
(Brainerd Lakes Area) - With the California Golden Bears reaching the College World Series in Omaha this past weekend, two Golden Bears who plan to play for the Lunkers this season will have a chance to win a national title.
Vince Bruno and Paul Toboni, both expected to be in Lunker uniforms this summer, are part of the California team that defeated Dallas Baptist in the Santa Clara Super Regional over the weekend. Two weekends ago, Cal won the Houston regional, which included a 9-8 comeback win over Baylor.
Bruno was a big part of California's success this season. The sophomore outfielder out of Concord, California is hitting .301 with 49 hits and 13 RBIs. Toboni, the sophomore infielder out of San Francisco, has played in nine games for the Golden Bears this season with a couple of hits and a run driven in.
"We are very excited for Vince and Paul and the entire California Golden Bears squad," said Lunkers General Manager Dustin Anaas. "Getting the chance to play in Omaha at the College World Series can be a once in a lifetime experience, and we wish them success in their run towards a national championship."
The Golden Bears will play No. 1 overall seed Virginia in their first game of the College World Series on Sunday, June 19 at 1 p.m. CT.
