Modesto Nuts News Release
Visalia, C.A. - With the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth, Victor Reyes delivered a RBI fielder's choice for the Visalia Rawhide to send the Modesto Nuts to a 5-4 ten-inning loss on Tuesday night at Recreation Park.
With Logan Cozart (L, 0-2) on the mound for the Nuts (8-10) Henry Castillo whacked a lead-off double. After a single and an intentional walk, the Rawhide (12-6) had the bases loaded. Victor Reyes hit a groundball to the drawn-in infield. The throw from Forrest Wall was low, slightly pulling catcher Dom Nunez off the plate enough for Castillo to score the walk-off run.
The Nuts had taken a lead in the fifth inning thanks to a pair of two run blasts. Collin Ferguson hit the first to get the Nuts a one run lead. After an error extended the inning, Wall tacked on with a two-run shot of his own.
The Nuts' starter Sam Howard surrendered the lead in the bottom of the inning on a RBI double and a two-run homer off the bat of Rudy Flores. Howard worked five innings and allowed four runs on six hits while walking two and striking out six.
Bud Jeter (W, 4-0) tossed a scoreless tenth working around a pair of one-out singles.
Game two of the three-game series is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday night. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 5:55 p.m.
