Two Hawks Named Post Season All-Stars
August 24, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN - The Midwest League has announced the 2010 Post Season All-Stars and two Silver Hawks have taken up three spots. Matt Davidson was selected as both the third baseman and designated hitter for the post season all-stars while Yonata Ortega was named as the right-handed reliever.
Both Davidson and Ortega are with high-A Visalia now, having earned promotions within the last month because of their work with the Silver Hawks.
It's fitting for Davidson to be chosen in two positions because he split time at third base and DH throughout the 2010 season. He led the team with 16 homers and 79 RBIs at the time of his promotion, and his .289 batting average is the highest among those with enough at-bats to qualify. Davidson still ranks second in the league in RBIs and currently places third in the league with 54 extra base hits and fourth with 35 doubles.
Ortega was the closer for South Bend until he was promoted in late July. He still leads the Midwest League with 22 saves and was 3-3 with a 4.10 ERA in 35 appearances for South Bend. Ortega struck out 41 batters in 41.2 innings in the Midwest League.
