Houston Dash News Release
HOUSTON - The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced the official list of Canadian Women's National Team allocated players from the Canadian Soccer Association for the 2016 season today, which features Houston Dash forward Janine Beckie and defender Allysha Chapman.
"This designation speaks to the quality of both Chapman and Beckie," Dash managing director Brian Ching said. "Our fans have a great opportunity to watch them compete later this week. We wish them the best and look forward to them joining us in camp later this year."
Beckie was selected by the Dash with the eighth pick at the 2016 NWSL College Draft out of Texas Tech University. The 21-year-old has been capped nine times for the senior team and has scored three times. Beckie finished her career at Texas Tech as the school's all-time leading goalscorer, with 57.
Chapman, 27, started every match for Canada at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. The Courtice, Ontario, native was allocated to the Dash prior to the 2015 NWSL season and made five appearances (four starts). The Louisiana State University alumna has earned 21 caps with Canada.
In addition to Beckie and Chapman, the full allocated list for the Dash consists of Americans Morgan Brian and Carli Lloyd. Allocated players are determined by their respective federation and their salaries do not count against the salary cap.
Canada will compete in Group B of the 2016 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship at BBVA Compass Stadium, and will open against Guyana on Feb. 11. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals, with the two nations advancing to the final also securing a spot at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Both semifinals and the final will also be played at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Tickets for all of Canada's matches as well as the semifinal and final are available now at BBVACompassStadium.com.
