Twins top Astros with six-run fourth inning

Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros (32-31) couldn't overcome a six-run inning by the Elizabethton Twins (39-25) Sunday night leading to an 8-2 defeat. Greeneville will look to avoid the series sweep with their regular season home finale tomorrow night.

Astros starter Chad Donato (1-1) pitched three innings giving up three runs on two hits and struck out three batters. Donato cruised through the first three innings and didn't allow a runner into scoring position until the top of the third, but back-to-back strikeouts ended any threat of a runner scoring.

Elizabethton did their damage in the top of the fourth inning, putting up six runs and sending ten players up to bat. A walk and a single put runners on the corners with no outs before Carson Crites singled on a line drive to left field scoring one and leaving runners at second and third. Third baseman Andrew Bechtold singled to right loading the bases as Gorge Munoz dropped a fly ball right on the foul line in shallow right field scoring all three runners. Two more RBI singles by Akil Baddoo and Jose Miranda topped off the scoring for Elizabethton before Greeneville left fielder Wilson Amador threw out a runner at home to end the inning.

The Astros quickly returned the favor in the bottom of the fourth scoring their first two runs of the game. Second baseman Frankeny Fernandez led off the inning with a double to left, advancing to third on a single by Gilberto Celestino. Roman Garcia brought in the first run of the game on an RBI single to left with Celestino advancing to third on a throwing error. Jose Benjamin grounded into a double play scoring Celestino for the second run of the inning.

It wasn't until the top of the sixth when the Twins added on their final two runs of the game. Munoz and Baddoo both hit one-out singles with Munoz scoring on a throwing error and Baddoo advancing to third. Jose Miranda brought in the last run on a sacrifice fly scoring Baddoo from third before a fly out ended the inning.

Humberto Castellanos closed out the game with three scoreless frames throwing a total of four innings on the night. Castellanos set the Twins down in order in both the eighth and ninth innings recording three strikeouts on his stat line.

Greeneville will close out their series tomorrow against the Elizabethton Twins in the final regular season home game of the 2017 season. Right hander Jairo Solis (1-1) takes the mound for the Astros with Edwar Colina (3-4) set as his opposition. First pitch is set for 7:00pm.
