Pulaski River Turtles News Release

PULASKI, Virginia - There were no merry feelings for the Pulaski Yankees (14-17) on Monday night as they dropped the series opener to the Elizabethton Twins (15-16) by a score of 5-1. The Yankees were holding their Christmas in July promotion at Calfee Park when the Twins snapped their three-game win streak.

The Twins first scored in the top of the second inning thanks to an RBI single by Mitchell Kranson that drove in Amaurys Minier. Kranson was tagged out trying to extend his hit into a double.

In the third inning the Twins extended their lead with a two-run home run by second baseman Travis Blankenhorn that drove in Brandon Lopez. Blankenhorn homered again in the fourth inning, driving in Roberto Gonzalez and Luis Martinez. While he was rounding the bases, Blankenhorn mistakenly passed Martinez, resulting in an out and a two-run homer that should have been worth three.

After the culmination of the fourth inning, the heavens opened up in Pulaski and the game went into a rain delay that lasted half an hour before resuming play.

The Yankees looked to make a comeback in the seventh inning as right fielder Isiah Gilliam hit a solo home run to right field giving Pulaski its first run of the game.

The Twins got another run across the plate in the eighth inning when Minier scored on an overthrow by Pulaski center fielder Blake Rutherford.

Pulaski starter Rafael Lara (2-3) got the loss while pitching 3.1 innings and giving up five runs on eight hits. Tyler Beardsley (1-0) picked up the win for Elizabethton while tossing 6.1 innings and giving up one run on five hits.

The loss for Pulaski keeps them in last place of the Appalachian League East as the season nears the midway point. The Yankees will finish this series against the Twins before traveling to Burlington for a series with the Royals.
