The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that defenseman Brennan Turner has been recalled to the Rockford Ice Hogs of the American Hockey League.
Turner has collected 3 assists in 8 games this season with the Gladiators after being reassigned to Gwinnett from the Rockford Ice Hogs on December 28th. He has 2 goals and 5 assists in 37 ECHL games this season with Gwinnett and Fresno.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native appeared in four games last year with Rockford after completing his junior season at Yale University. Turner notched 14 penalty minutes during his first stint in the AHL.
Turner collected 3 assists in three seasons at Yale. He skated in 58 career collegaiate games at Yale from 2005 to 2008.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound defenseman was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 5th round of the 2005 NHL Draft with the 134th overall pick.
The Gladiators continue the 2008-09 season on the road Friday, January 23rd at 7:30 p.m. as they take on the Florida Everblades in Estero, Florida.
Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 21 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 864 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.
The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
