Tucson win over Salt Lake

April 22, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Tucson Padres News Release

Vince Belnome's game-ending single gave the Padres a win on the night they made their largest comeback in team history. The Padres trailed Salt Lake 8-0 in the sixth inning Saturday and came back to win, 9-8. Tucson scored four in the sixth, four in the eighth and mounted a two-out rally in the ninth to win.

Tucson starter Jeff Suppan allowed five runs in three innings in his 2012 debut. The Bees tacked on single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to go ahead by eight runs. Sawyer Carroll's three-run home run punctuated the four-run sixth for Tucson. The Padres sent nine batters to the plate in the four-run eighth, scoring on an RBI triple by Carroll, an RBI single by Rocky Gale, an RBI single by Anthony Contreras and an RBI fielder's choice by Everth Cabrera. With two outs and nobody on base in the ninth, Carroll singled through the right side, stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by Hank Conger. He jogged home and scored the winning run when Belnome's single landed in deep center field.

The Padres largest comeback this season before Saturday was three runs. Brad Brach picked up the win after pitching a scoreless top of the ninth inning. Carroll now has five hits in the past two games.
