Cleveland Monsters News Release

In a goalies duel Wednesday evening in Toronto, the Lake Erie Monsters (27-26-2-7) were edged 2-1 by the Toronto Marlies (32-20-2-4), marking the third straight loss for Lake Erie. Geoff Walker scored the lone goal for the Monsters, while Calvin Pickard stopped 22 shots in net. The game marked the first of three straight that the Monsters will play against the North Division-leading Marlies.

After a scoreless first period in which the teams each had nine shots on goal, Mike Zigomanis scored the game's first goal at 9:23 of the second period on a backhand shot from the right circle to the far side of the net. The marker gave Toronto a 1-0 lead, which would hold into the third period.

Walker tied the game at 1-1 for the Monsters when he tapped in the rebound from a John Negrin point shot 7:21 of the final frame. The goal was the fourth of the season for Walker, and was also assisted by Andrew Agozzino.

Just 33 seconds later, Zigomanis found Joe Colborne in front of the Monsters net for a one-timer from the slot; Colborne beat Pickard for the eventual game-winning goal, making the score 2-1 in favor of Toronto.

Pickard stopped 22 of 24 shots and is now 16-16-5. Drew MacIntyre stopped 29 of 30 Monsters shots to improve to 5-2-1 on the season in a Marlies uniform.

The Monsters and Marlies meet again at Quicken Loans Arena on Sunday, followed by another match-up at The Q on Tuesday.

NOTES: The Monsters were 0-3 on the power play, but 5-5 on the penalty kill... Agozzino's assist makes him the Monsters scoring leader with 42 points... The Monsters are now 14-13-1-3 on the road this season, and are now 3-2-0-0 against Toronto in '12-13... Pickard is 2-2-0 against Toronto this season... The Monsters have lost back-to-back games by a 2-1 score, and have lost three consecutive games, with each defeat coming by a single goal... Pickard has started 10 of the Monsters last 11 games, and has stopped 281 of 300 shots over that stretch.
