Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Indians left-handed pitcher Justin Wilson has been named the International League's Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, earning the award after allowing just one run and five hits in two starts during the week of June 11-17.

Wilson also earned the award for the week of April 23-29 for his effort in a combined no-hitter against the Durham Bulls. The southpaw joins former Indianapolis starters John Van Benschoten and Ian Snell as the Tribe's only two-time winners of the award.

Wilson was stellar in both of his outings for the week of June 11-17, going 1-0 and posting a miniscule 0.69 ERA, allowing just one earned run in 13.0 innings pitched. Wilson also struck out 11 opponents across the two starts.

In his first start of the week, Wilson picked up his fifth win of the season, tossing 7.0 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just four hits and zero walks while striking out five Red Wings in a performance that was overshadowed by the Tribe's 16-run offensive explosion. It was Wilson's longest outing since throwing the first 7.1 innings of the no-hitter in Durham that garnered his first Pitcher of the Week award.

The southpaw was perfect through three innings of his second start of the week, eventually allowing just one hit and one run in a no decision in Charlotte that the Indians won on a Jeff Clement home run in the top of the ninth inning. Wilson struck out five Knights across 6.0 innings in the start while allowing just three walks. It was the first time Wilson had tossed at least 6.0 innings in back-to-back starts since combining for 12.2 innings pitched between starts on April 11 and 17.

In 14 starts this season, Wilson is 5-4 with a 3.62 ERA and a team-leading 73 strikeouts. Opponents are batting just .206 against Wilson, the third-lowest average against any International League pitcher. The southpaw is expected to make his next start on Friday, June 22, when the Indians return to Victory Field to begin a four-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees at 7:15 p.m.
