Trenton Thunder Hope Week Starts Tomorrow

Trenton, NJ - Tomorrow, the Trenton Thunder, the Double A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, will begin participation in a collection of community events called HOPE Week (Helping Others Preserve & Excel). HOPE Week is a New York Yankees initiative designed to reach out to remarkable people who are worthy of recognition for their inspiring actions and support of their communities.

The following are the honorees and/or outreach events of Trenton Thunder HOPE Week. Each will consist of the Thunder players, mascot and staff visiting a location and/or a presentation prior to that night's game:

Friday, June 21: Trenton YMCA. Thunder players, mascot Boomer and bat dog Derby will visit the YMCA to interact with the kids from 2pm-3pm. Sam Frisby, who is a Mercer County Freeholder and CEO of the YMCA of Trenton will be honored on the field before that night's game. Game time is 7:05pm.

Saturday, June 22: Special Olympics New Jersey. Thunder players will host a baseball clinic at ARM & HAMMER Park for Special Olympians between 11am-1pm. The participating athletes will be introduced on the field before that night's game. Game time is 7:05pm.

Sunday, June 23: Surprise Recognition for a Trenton Thunder staff member. The Thunder will highlight one staff member who went above and beyond to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy during pre-game activities on the field. Game time is 1:05pm.

Monday, June 24: Rescue Mission of Trenton. Thunder players will volunteer at the Rescue Mission from 10am-1pm. Executive Director Mary Gay Abbott-Young and Rescue Mission staff will be honored on field that night. Game time is 7:05pm.

Tuesday, June 25: Trenton Children's Chorus. Choristers and staff will be honored on the field in a pre-game ceremony and program participants will perform "God Bless America" during the Seventh Inning Stretch. Game time is 7:05pm.

The New York Yankees began HOPE Week in 2009 in an attempt to inspire people to follow the actions of a few great individuals who have proved how much they care for their own communities by giving back and helping as much as they could. The Thunder are proud to join the Yankees in celebrating HOPE Week in Trenton for the second time in 2013.
