Arkansas Travelers News Release

Springdale, AR-The Arkansas Travelers were shutout for the second consecutive game by the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, 3-0 on Sunday night.

The Travs were limited to four hits in the contest, two of them in the ninth inning, by four Naturals pitchers. Starter Miguel Almonte left the game one batter into the second inning with an apparent injury to his pitching hand but it did not slow the Northwest Arkansas pitching staff. Sam Selman (2-2) came on and tossed 3.2 hitless innings on his way to earning the win. Reid Redman followed with three scoreless innings before Jake Newberry closed it out by recording the final four outs and picking up his fifth save.

Arkansas did threaten in the ninth with singles from Nelson Ward and Chuck Taylor to bring the tying run to the plate with one out but the Naturals turned a tough 6-4-3 double play on Ryan Casteel 's hard grounder to close it out.

Tyler Herb pitched well in the start for the Travelers totaling eight strikeouts over six innings. He allowed three runs in the form of three single tallies limiting damage each time the Naturals threatened. Herb finished by retiring eight of the final nine batters he faced. Blake Perry and Thyago Vieira each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.

Casteel and Taylor did each extend their hitting streaks to 10. Casteel's on a first inning double and Taylor's on the single in the ninth.

The Travs and Naturals play again on Monday night with first pitch set for 7:05. Right-hander Brett Ash (2-2, 5.02) starts for Arkansas against right-hander Corey Ray (3-1, 3.24). The game will be broadcast on the Sports Animal 920, the First Pitch App, TuneIn radio and milb.tv.
