Tourists Win 6-1 Behind Johnson, Bullpen

Asheville starter Drasen Johnson and three relievers limited Lexington to three hits as the Tourists beat the Legends 6-1 Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

The Tourists scored two runs in the second inning. With one out, Sam Hilliard walked and Hamlet Marte singled. Hilliard came home on a double by Scott Burcham. After Max George walked to load the bases, Carlos Herrera grounded into a force play at the plate, but Brendan Rodgers walked, forcing in the second run.

Brian Mundell's solo homer in the fifth gave Asheville a 3-0 lead, and the Tourists added another run in the sixth. Hilliard drew a leadoff walk. He moved to third on a throwing error by Legends reliever Daniel Concepcion on a pickoff attempt, and later scored on a single by Rodgers.

Marte doubled home two more runs in the seventh inning.

The Legends only run came in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, when Travis Maezes hit his team-leading 13th home run of the year.

Johnson (6-2), who worked the first five innings, struck out nine batters and walked one. He allowed two singles. Ben Bowden pitched a scoreless sixth, and Salvador Justo blanked the Legends through the eighth.

Sam Thoele relieved in the ninth and retired the first two batters before Maezes homered to left center field.

Legends starter Gerson Garabito (2-8) was the losing pitcher.

The Tourists have taken two out of three in the series, which concludes with an afternoon game Wednesday. First pitch is set for 12:35 p.m.
