Tourists Make Their Mark in Augusta

Augusta, GA-The offense of the Asheville Tourists exploded Friday night as the GreenJackets dropped the series opener 7-2 at Lake Olmstead Stadium. It was the second straight loss for the GreenJackets who have been held to just three runs in their last two games.

The Game was tied at two going into the sixth inning. With one out in the top of the inning, Jacob Basiokovic and Carlos Herrerra hit back to back singles for the Tourists. Ben Johnson then drew a walk to load the bases. Manuel Melendez grounded into a fielder's choice to push across a run and give the Tourists a 3-2 lead.

The Tourists continued to add on in the seventh against GreenJackets reliever Wilson Santos who had just entered the game. Bobby Wernes led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Max George. He advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 Tourists. Tyler Nevin followed with a single and Joel Diaz drew a walk to put two runners on. Bosiokovic came up and hit a three run home run to expand Asheville's lead to 7-2.

Trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, Sandro Fabian hit a leadoff home run for the GreenJackets to trim the deficit to 2-1. Brandon Van Horn then drew a walk. With one out, Shawon Dunston singled to advance him to second. He advanced to third on a wild pitch. With two outs, Jean Angomas reached on a fielding error by Nevin at first to allow Van Horn to score and tie the game at two.

The GreenJackets will be back in action Saturday evening for game two of the four game series with the Tourists. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm with the gates opening at 4:30pm for a special pre-game concert by the band CORE as part of the Saturday Concert Series. It is day two of Augusta Pirates 80's weekend featuring an Augusta Pirates Jersey Auction. It is also #BattleWon Day in honor of Drew Passmore in partnership with the Augusta Christian Schools. The GreenJackets will be running a fundraiser for a scholarship in honor of Passmore. After the game, fans will get to enjoy a spectacular 3-D Fireworks show and kids 12 and under will get to run the bases.

Domenic Mazza (5-6, 3.11) will start on the mound for the GreenJackets against Breiling Eusebio (0-0, 16.20) for the Tourists.
