May 21, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release

The Colorado Rockies have added pitcher Tyler Matzek and infielder Nolan Arenado to the Asheville Tourists' 25-man roster. Both players have been in extended spring training in Arizona. To make room for the newcomers, outfielder Nathan Hines, first baseman Mike Zuanich and pitchers Josh Hungerman and Charles Ruiz have been sent to extended spring training.

Matzek, a left-handed pitcher, was the Rockies' first-round draft pick in 2009. Rated prior to this season by Baseball America as the Colorado organization's top prospect, Matzek was drafted out of Capistrano Valley High School in California. He signed last August and has yet to make his professional debut in an official game.

Arenado was the Rockies' second-round draft pick in 2009, selected out of El Toro High School in California. The third baseman played in 54 games at Rookie-level Casper last summer and batted .300 with two home runs and 22 RBIs. Baseball America tabbed Arenado as the 10th-best prospect in the Rockies' farm system prior to the 2010 season.

Hines owned a .269 batting average with 14 RBIs in 22 games this season with the Tourists. Hungerman had a 6.00 ERA in 11 relief outings. Zuanich, who was hitting .382 in nine games, and Ruiz, who was 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA in 11 appearances out of the bullpen, have been on the disabled list and will continue their rehabilitation in Arizona.

The Tourists return home to McCormick Field on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. to face Kannapolis in the first game of a four-game series. Asheville will then host the Greensboro Grasshoppers from May 24-27 as part of the eight-game homestand. For more information, contact the Tourists' front office at (828) 258-0428.
