Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees (8-5, 50-32) lost for the third-consecutive game as the Daytona Tortugas (7-3, 43-36) secured a series win with a 6-2 final on Tuesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Tampa pitchers surrendered more than two runs for the first time since June 25th.

Jorge Mateo legged out a double on a groundball to left in the first for Tampa. Later, Austin Aune belted a two-out double to the wall in center, scoring Mateo and giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

Daytona tied the score in the fourth without the need of a hit. Blake Trahan and Brian O'Grady walked and tagged up on a fly out by Gavin LaValley. A groundout by Aristides Aquino plated Trahan, tying the score at 1-1.

Yefrey Ramirez made the start for Tampa after being named Florida State League "Pitcher of the Week" earlier in the day. It turned out to be an unusual start for the right-hander. After tallying a career-best 11 strikeouts and no walks in his debut, Ramirez issued a season-high four walks and recorded a season-low one strikeout.

Ramirez took a no-hitter into the sixth before running into trouble. Trahan worked a one-out walk and later scored as LaValley broke up the no-no with a two-out, go-ahead RBI double. RHP Willie Gabay entered in relief of Ramirez and allowed the next five batters to reach.

Aquino hit a double off the top of the left field wall, scoring LaValley. Aquino scored on a base hit to right by Ronald Bueno. Gabay walked Blake Butler before Garrett Boulware contributed an RBI infield single. Jonathan Reynoso followed with a single to center, scoring Butler. RHP Joey Maher entered and escaped the inning, getting Ty Washington to pop out.

Ramirez (L, 1-1) allowed three earned runs on one hit in five and two-third innings, throwing 46 of 78 pitches for strikes.

Tejay Antone (W, 7-5) held Tampa to one run on seven hits in seven innings, striking out three while not issuing a walk. The righty tossed 57 of 83 pitches for strikes.

Maher worked around a pair of hits in the seventh to pitch a scoreless frame, striking out two. RHP Angel Rincon scattered three hits in two shutout relief innings.

Tampa managed to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth against RHP Jake Paulson. With one out, Abiatal Avelino singled and Zack Zehner walked. Thairo Estrada followed with a single to center, scoring Avelino. A walk by Vicente Conde loaded the bases with the Yankees trailing, 6-2.

Daytona brought in Alex Powers (SV, 1) and the righty struck out Jerry Seitz and Mason Williams, preserving the win for the Tortugas.

Mateo (2-for-4, R), Aune (2-for-4, 2 2B, RBI) and Estrada (2-for-4, RBI) had multi-hit games. Zehner (1-for-3, BB) extended his hitting streak to eight games. Trey Amburgey (1-for-4) and Seitz (1-for-4) recorded their first hits since joining Tampa. Williams (0-for-5) batted leadoff as the designated hitter in his second rehab game.

The series concludes on Wednesday with RHP Will Carter (1-2, 5.66 ERA) scheduled to pitch for Tampa against RHP Wendolyn Bautista (1-0, 1.74 ERA) for Daytona. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
