Tomahawks Take on U.S. National Program this Weekend

It's officially hockey season in Hockeyville, USA! The Tomahawks are coming off an exceptional weekend with two victories in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Now we look forward to this weekend with a slate of games against the United Sates National Development Program!

Tomahawks Sweep Weekend Slate

The Tomahawks opened the 2016-17 regular season on the road when they faced the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights at the Revolution Ice Centre.

Friday, Sept. 9, the Tomahawks fought back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Knights 4-3. Dalton Hunter, Donovan Ott, Alex Singley and Andrew Quetell tallied goals for the Hawks and Britt League notched his first NAHL win.

Saturday, Sept. 10, Johnstown and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton endured a back-and-forth contest. The Knights gained another two-goal lead before the Tomahawks used a four-goal third period to capture a 6-4 win.

Vinnie Purpura picked up the win for Johnstown.

Hawks Host the United States National Development Program

Announced last week, the Johnstown Tomahawks will take on the United States National Development Program this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 17 (9:15 p.m.) and Sunday, Sept. 18 (7:00 p.m.)

The event takes place at the RMU Island Sports Center, located at 7600 Grand Avenue on Neville Island in Pittsburgh.

"It really is a great chance for our players to compete against such a prestigious program," head coach Mike Letizia said. "The opportunity to test ourselves against a high-end collection of young American talent is an exciting challenge for our players. The exposure our players can receive is exceptional and we eagerly look forward to the games."

Hunter Named East Division Star of the Week

Forward Dalton Hunter was named the East Division Star of the Week for the week ending Sept. 11, 2016.

Hunter collected three points (three goals) in a weekend sweep of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.

The Greensburg, Pa., native tallied a goal Friday, Sept. 9 ina 4-3 victory for the Tomahawks. He then followed that performance with a two-goal night helping Johnstown come back an win 6-4 on Saturday, Sept. 10.

"It was a great way for us to start our regular season with 2 wins on the road," Tomahawks head coach Mike Letizia said. "Both games were a good battle and Dalton was instrumental in our success.

Looking Ahead: Tomahawks Showcase Schedule.

All 24 teams in the North American Hockey League will participate in 2016 NAHL Showcase Tournament in Blaine, Minnesota.

The tournament begins Wednesday, Sept. 21 and end Saturday, Sept. 24 with four games in four days.

Below is the Tomahawks schedule. All times are Central Standard Time.

Wednesday, Sept. 21: vs. Springfield Jr. Blues (11:15 a.m.)

Thursday, Sept. 22 vs. Minnesota Wilderness (2:15 p.m.)

Friday, Sept. 23 vs. Austin Bruins (10:00 a.m.)

Saturday, Sept. 24 vs. Shreveport Mudbugs (12:00 p.m.)
