West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

SOUTH BEND, IN - Due to a steadily increasing thunderstorm, Friday's scheduled Game 3 between the West Michigan Whitecaps and South Bend Cubs at Four Winds Field was forced into a suspension in the top of the eighth inning.

The game began at 7:46p.m. ET, and the two teams, with their season's on the line, played to a 3-3 tie through seven innings of the winner-take-all-game. In the top of the eighth, Arvicent Perez reached first base on an infield single to lead off the frame. As Jose Azocar began his at-bat in a thunderstorm that spanned the previous hour, the rain became too heavy for play to continue. As a result, the game was suspended after a rain delay lasting nearly 45 minutes.

The suspension means that Friday's game will be restarted at the point in which the game was halted - with Perez running at first base and Azocar at-bat with a 0-1 count beginning at 4:05p.m. The winner of Saturday's resumption will move on to the Midwest League Eastern Division Championship, where they will face the winner of Saturday's Game 3 between Bowling Green and Great Lakes in another best-of-three series beginning on Sunday.

The Whitecaps will complete Game 3 of this Midwest League Quarterfinal series against the South Bend Cubs Saturday at 4:05p.m. Broadcast coverage with Dan Hasty begins on the Whitecaps Baseball Network at 3:55p.m. If the Whitecaps advance to Round 2, tickets can be reserved for the 2016 Midwest League Eastern Division Championship by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or by visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
