Titans Start Road Trip with "2" in Kalamazoo
February 15, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - It wasn't easy, but it sure was entertaining as the Trenton Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, lost a two-goal lead but fought back to gain an important 4-3 road win over the Wings, before 3,065 in a Valentine's Day "Pink the Rink" clash at Wings Stadium.
The win marks a good start to a three game road trip for the Titans (20-23-4-347 points), as they head to Cincinnati for two, in an attempt to get back into the Eastern Conference playoff race.
Trenton used the power play for the only goal of the first, as Marvin Degon's blast from the top of the left circle beat Wings goalie Joel Martin (L, 25 saves, 21-19-4-1 and making his 34th consecutive start) after a perfect pass from Jacob Cepis for the 1-0 lead, 3:21 into the period. It was Degon's first goal in his first game since joining the Titans.
Trenton struck again on the man advantage early in the second. This time Bryan Haczyk hammered home a goal on Martin's doorstep 2:21 in for the 2-0 lead.
Kalamazoo (23-22-4-151) started to ramp up the pressure and it finally paid off at 12:27 as Brett Lysak was credited with PP tally when a shot hit him and deflected into the net, cutting the deficit in half. It wouldn't stay that way long as Kyle Page tied the game 41 seconds later with his first of the year.
The comeback went from complete to a total turnaround three minutes later when a Wesley Myron shot hit Dustin Cloutier and redirected past Scott Wedgewood (W, 34 saves, 15-16-3-1) for a 3-2 lead.
Despite the momentum being against them, the Titans rallied to tie the game late in the period. Again it was Haczyk scoring on the power play. His 10th of the year (5th PPG) completed perfect tic-tac-toe passing from Jacob Cepis and Andy Bohmbach at 18:45.
Both goalies turned away golden chances to keep the score knotted at 3-3 until 12:05 of the third. Jacob Drewiskie stole the puck off Page's stick in the Trenton offensive zone. Skating to the slot, he dropped a pass to Blake Kessel. The ensuing blast from the right point beat Martin low glove-side left for the eventual game winner.
The Wings pulled Martin for the final 1:30 and produced a couple good chances, but the Titans' defense stood strong to help preserve the win.
Trenton now hits the road to Southwest Ohio and the first of two games with North Division leader Cincinnati (7:35 pm). As always the game can be heard on AmericaOne.com, or through our flagship station 107.7 FM The Bronc (Trenton) and online at 1077theBronc.com. The Voice of the Titans, "The Bronc" Daryle Dobos, once again has all the action, beginning with the pregame at 7:15 pm.
AFTER THE WHISTLE
After going 0-for-6 in the last meeting with the Wings, Trenton went 3-for-6 in the game. Kalamazoo was 1-for-4 after a 1-for-7 effort last meeting.
