Titans GameDay vs. Reading, February 23 - Game 55 (Home 29)

February 23, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

Last Meeting

February 8, 2013 - A third thrilling OT finish in four home meetings went to the Titans, as Mike Ullrich netted his second OT-GWG of the year at 1:40 of the extra session for a 3-2 victory.

Next Meeting

This is the final meeting in Trenton between the two arch-rivals, but they do have two more games this season in Reading. The next one is tomorrow at the Sovereign Center at 4:05 pm

Not Many More Dates Left

This is the 13th game of 15 total between the Atlantic Division foes.

Struggling But Still Killing It

For the first time in almost a month, the Titans are no longer the top PK unit in the league. After a 2-for-4 effort against Elmira last night, Trenton is now second at 85.5 percent (189-221), nearly a full point behind Alaska (86.4).

However, Reading might be the cure for what ails the Titans. Despite a dangerous offense, the Royals PP has struggled most of the season (16th overall at 15.7 now) and has been non-existent against Trenton. It is 2-for-51 on the year (3.9) and hasn't scored in its last 43 chances. The last PPG came at 15:07 of the first on October 17 (1 goal allowed in each of the first 2 games).

Meanwhile a Titans PP that hasn't scored in 13 tries over four-plus games (since going 3-6 against Kalamazoo on February 14), has done well against Reading. They have scored in eight of the 12 meetings and put up three goals twice. The Titans have scored 4 PPG in the last two games and are 13-54 (24.1) for the season against the Royals.

Enhancing A Rivalry

Though not close in points, other aspects making rivalry stronger.

With Reading (76 points) pushing for a 1-seed in the Eastern Conference and Trenton (48) fighting just to get into the post season with 18 games left, tonight's Royals-Titans affair should be full of fire and energy. But considering the way these contests have gone lately, it should be quite a battle anyway.

Through 12 meetings (of 15 total), eight games have been decided by a goal, including the last six. Of those six, three were home OTW for the Titans and one a shoot-out victory for Reading.

Half of the remaining games were decided by more than two goals, with the Royals winning at home (4-1) and the Titans taking the season's first meeting in Reading (6-2).

For the year, Reading sports a 7-2-3 record against Trenton, with the 3 OTL the only ones on the season. Trenton is 5-6-0-1, but has won the last three at home - all in OT. So don't fall out of your seat...you might be on the edge of it all game and then some.
