Titans Fall at Home to Elmira, 4-1

February 18, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, could not take advantage of their first home game in nine days, falling to Atlantic Division foe Elmira today, 4-1, before an announced President's Day matinee crowd of 3,003 at the Sun National Bank Center.

Scott Wedgewood (L, 36 saves, 15-19-3-1) was outdueled but not outplayed by Elmira's Maxime Clermont (W, 30 saves, 13-10-2-1) in the Battle of New Jersey draft picks. Wedgewood was selected by the Devils in the third round (#84) of the 2010 NHL Draft, while Clermont was a sixth round pick (#174).

The Titans (20-26-4-347 points) found themselves down 2-0 after two periods and in need of a quick goal in the third. They got that goal from Jordan Cepis (15) less than five minutes into the frame. Following a steal and forecheck pressure by Andy Bohmbach and Jesse Todd, Cepis rolled around the net to Clermont's left. After having the first shot stopped, Cepis lifted a second over a prone Clermont, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Unfortunately despite some good pressure it was as close as the Titans would get, as the Jackals (28-20-2-260 points, 8th in the Atlantic) would add two late goals - the last an empty-netter in the final minute to seal the win.

Trenton will quickly get another crack at Elmira at home, when the two teams square off on Friday night (7:05 pm) at SNBC. Tickets are available by calling (609) 341-1100, or online at TrentonTitansHockey.com. Game reports can be followed on Twitter (@TTitansPBP) and heard live at 107.7 FM (Trenton area), or online at 1077theBronc.com and at AmericaOne.com. The Voice of the Titans, "The Bronc" Daryle Dobos, will once again call all the action.

AFTER THE WHISTLE

Clermont is now 4-0-0-1 in six appearances against the Titans. Wedgewood is 3-4-1 in eight meetings.

The Titans' PK unit - #1 in the ECHL - stopped the lone power play opportunity for Elmira. Trenton was stopped on all three of its chances on the man advantage.

Trenton is now 4-5-1 against the Jackals with six meetings left. Elmira is 6-3-0-1 versus Trenton.
