January 12, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

Trenton, NJ - The Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, fell to South Carolina Saturday night, 3-1, for the second time in two nights on home ice. With the victory, the Stingrays complete the season sweep of Trenton (4-0) and spoiled Military Appreciation Night at the Sun National Bank Center.

Just like the previous night, the teams drew even in the first period, with neither able to find the back of the net and Trenton outshooting the visitors 8-6. South Carolina (18-18-1-3, 40 pts) upped the ante in the second, taking a 1-0 lead when Phil Mangan put back a rebound before Scott Wedgewood (10-11-2, 16 saves) could recover after being caught outside the left post just 3:12 into the period. Tyler Johnson also beat the Trenton netminder at 8:54 of the period with a back-hander to push the Stingray lead to two.

Chris Langkow added some insurance for South Carolina with a goal at 7:27 of the third to put the Stingrays up 3-0.

Trenton (14-17-3-2, 33 pts) finally broke through in the third when Bryan Haczyk lit the lamp with a wrister from outside the right circle, breaking up a shutout bid from Jeff Jakaitis (2-2-1-1, 32 saves) with less than three minutes to play. The unassisted tally was Hackzyk's fifth of the season.

Trenton was unable to send off Second Lieutenant Marcel Alvarez with a "W", as the West Point grad (2012) and former Black Knight Hockey Captain will report to Fort Benning, GA, for Army Ranger school tomorrow morning. Alvarez played in 18 games for the Titans while on leave, recording 1 goal, 2 assists, 11 shots and 4 PIM.

The Titans outshot South Carolina, 33-19, and neither team was able to cash in on power play opportunities, with Trenton going 0-for-2 and South Carolina 0-for-5.

The Titans will remain home for a weekday meeting with rival Reading this Wednesday at 11 am. The team will then head to Elmira for a divisional battle with the Jackals at 7:05 before returning home for two games against Cincinatti on Saturday and Sunday (Jan 19/20th). Faceoff Saturday is set for 7:05 pm, and Sunday's afternoon tilt will get underway at 3:05. All Titans games can be heard on 107.7 FM The Bronc, or online at 1077thebronc.com and AmericaOne.com with "The Bronc" Daryle Dobos, the Voice of the Titans.
