LANSING, Mich. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps (16-23) scored three runs in the ninth inning, rallying past the Lansing Lugnuts (19-17), 6-4, in a Wednesday matinee at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The result clinched a three-game sweep for Fort Wayne and sent the Lugnuts to a season-high fifth straight loss.
Until the ninth, Lugnuts second baseman Bo Bichette was the game's headliner. Bichette walked, stole second and scored the game's first run in the first inning on a Bradley Jones single; delivered a two-run double in the third inning; drew a second walk in the fifth inning; and broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh with an RBI single.
In all, the 19-year-old prospect was 2-for-2 with one run scored, two walks and three runs batted in, raising his league-leading batting average to .373.
But the TinCaps answered in the ninth against Lansing closer Jackson McClelland (Blown Save, 1; Loss, 1-2). Fort Wayne tied the game at 4-4 on a fielding error by shortstop Yeltsin Gudino, and then seized the lead with back-to-back RBI hits from Fernando Tatis, Jr. and Reinaldo Ilarraza.
