TinCaps Hold on for 4-1 Win

(Fort Wayne, IN) - Fort Wayne (41-24) scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to spark a 4-1 victory over the Lake County Captains (21-42). In the second inning, Fort Wayne hit three doubles. They also had three straight hits with two outs. The big hit was a double by Mallex Smith. The two- bagger scored a run, Smith noticed that no one was at third base and took the extra base. Alberth Martinez singled up the middle on the very next pitch and Smith scored easily. The score was 4-0 Fort Wayne and the TinCaps never looked back.

Fort Wayne scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. Alberth Martinez walked and then motored around to score on a Maxx Tissenbaum double. The score was 1-0 Fort Wayne after one inning. Lake County scored a run in the seventh inning. Leo Castillo singled and moved to third base on a throwing error. Erik Gonzalez singled Castillo home and Lake County was on the board but trailed 4-1.

RHP Luis Dejesus (1-7) was on the bump for the Captains. Dejesus pitched six innings and allowed four earned runs. He allowed nine hits, and walked just one. Dejesus struck out one. Dejesus took the loss. Jack Wagoner pitched two innings for the Captains and did not allow a run while striking out two.

Fort Wayne sent RHP Walker Weickel (2-3) to the mound to start the game. Weickel got the win. He pitched five shutout innings and allowed three hits. Weickel struck out five. Matthew Shepherd pitched two innings and allowed three hits and one unearned run. Leonel Campos pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Chris Nunn entered in the ninth inning, and earned his fourth save of the season.

Friday is a Fireworks Friday Night, presented by Universal Windows Direct. It is also the Captains first Faith Night of the season presented by 95.5 The Fish and musician Joey Skoch will be performing prior to the game in the Castaway's bar area.

The Captains will help kickoff the 2013 Coats for Kids Campaign by allowing fans to drop off donations of new or gently-worn winter coats to the Coats for Kids table located outside the main gate prior to the start of the game. Cash donations, or checks (made payable to Coats for Kids - Cleveland) are also welcome. Funds raised during the annual campaign are used to purchase new coats for those in need.

The Captains Friday Night Concert Series continues as Pieces of Eight featuring the Lakeside Brass will entertain the crowd with a concert following the fireworks show. Pieces of Eight has been entertaining Northeast Ohio since 1979 and is made up of eight musicians complete with its own horn section. The band performs a mix of classic Rock & Roll and popular R&B featuring music from Bruce Springsteen, the J. Geils band, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and much more. They will perform on stage adjacent to Castaways Bar which will remain open throughout the show. The Captains will feature iconic local bands following every Friday night home game for the remainder of the season.

Lake County will return home to wrap up the first half of the season with a four game series (in three days) against the Great Lakes Loons. On Friday, the Captains will hand the ball to RHP Robbie Aviles (1-2, 7.65) and the Loons will counter with LHP Miguel Sulbaran (3-2, 4.64). First pitch from Classic Park will be at 7:00 PM.
