TinCaps, Hawks Halted Early By Rain

June 20, 2009 - Midwest League (MWL1) - Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

South Bend, IN - The Fort Wayne TinCaps' game against the South Bend Silver Hawks was suspended in the 4th inning due to rain and lightning in northwest Indiana. Fort Wayne was ahead, 3-1, when the game was suspended. The game will be resumed on Saturday at 6:00pm prior to beginning a seven-inning nightcap against the Silver Hawks.

South Bend plated a run in the bottom of the 1st when Jake Elmore singled and eventually scored on an errant pickoff throw by RHP Simon Castro.

The TinCaps came back with three runs in the top of the 3rd, partially due to command issues from South Bend RHP Ryan Cook. Dean Anna punched a leadoff single to left and two batters later, Cole Figueroa singled. A pair of wild pitches scored Anna and moved Figueroa to third. After a walk to Jaff Decker, Matt Clark flared a two-out single to leftcenter and Figueroa raced home to give Fort Wayne a2-1 lead. A walk to Sawyer Carroll reloaded the bases. Working from the windup, Cook then balked Decker home from third to make it 3-1.

Just one pitch into the bottom of the 4th, lightning flashed through the skies surrounding Coveleski Stadium and the game was stopped.

The TinCaps and Silver Hawks (Class-A Arizona Diamondbacks) continue the four-game series Saturday at Coveleski Stadium at 6:00pm. Friday's game will be resumed with the score 3-1 in the bottom of the 4th and normal nine innings expected. Then, a seven-inning game will be played to complete the twinbill.
