Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Dayton, OH - The Fort Wayne TinCaps raced out to an early 3-0 lead over the Dayton Dragons, Thursday at Fifth Third Field and hung on for a 3-1 victory.

Drew Cumberland blasted his second home run of the season, RHP Stiven Osuna had a strong starting performance and the bullpen fired 3.1 scoreless innings. Cumberland, the second batter of the game, drilled a home run over the wall in right to give Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead. It was his second home run in a week and his third professionally. Daniel Robertson was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Yefri Carvajal's two-out RBI single to center to make it 2-0.

The TinCaps added onto the lead in the 2nd. Kevin Hansen was hit by a pitch and a pair of walks loaded the bases with nobody out. Blake Tekotte followed by bouncing into an RBI fielder's choice, but that was all the TinCaps could muster as the lead stood at 3-0.

Meanwhile, Osuna held the Dragons scoreless into the 5th inning. With one out, Kevin Coddington ripped a single to right. Kyle Day then drilled an RBI double down the rightfield line to make it 3-1. A walk to Jordan Wideman put the tying run on base, but Miguel Rojas hit a fly ball to left; Daniel Robertson raced in and made a diving catch, popped up and fired to second to double off Day, who was running on the pitch.

The bullpen took over from there. Alexis Lara retired all four batters he faced. In the 8th, Zach Herr allowed back-to-back one-out singles but a strikeout and a flyout shortcircuited the rally. Brad Brach struck out the side in the 9th to nail down a save for the second straight night, his 19th.

Osuna (4-6) was the winning pitcher as he went 5.2 innings allowing a run on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts; it was his second consecutive strong start since returning from the bullpen. Dayton RHP Lance Janke took the loss to fall to 4-4.

The TinCaps improved to 51-26 overall, 6-1 in the second half. They are now 13-1 against the Dragons this season. Dayton dropped to 31-46, 3-4 in the half. Fort Wayne and the Dragons (Class-A Cincinnati Reds) finish the four-game series Friday at 7:00pm. Fort Wayne RHP Erik Davis (6-3) takes the ball against Dragons LHP Matt Fairel (5-3
