Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Dayton, OH - After a hot start Tuesday against the Dayton Dragons, the Fort Wayne TinCaps offense fizzled out in a 5-3 loss. The TinCaps mustered just four hits and went 0- for-8 with runners in scoring position.

In the top of the 1st, the TinCaps took advantage of wildness from Dayton RHP J.C. Sulbaran, who walked the first three batters of the game. He nearly got out of the jam unscathed as he induced a strikeout and an infield fly, but Cole Figueroa drilled a comebacker to the mound off Sulbaran's glove. Sulbaran recovered the ball on the right side of the infield and threw past the first baseman, allowing Blake Tekotte and Drew Cumberland to score. Sulbaran's next pitch went to the backstop, allowing Daniel Robertson to score and give the TinCaps a 3-0 lead.

In the 2nd inning, the TinCaps threatened with a pair of two-out singles, but did not score. They would not have another hit until the 7th inning.

Meanwhile, Dayton chipped away at the lead. In the 2nd, the Dragons loaded the bases with nobody out. Miguel Rojas bounced into a fielder's choice for the first out, but Kevyn Feiner followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1. LHP Mike Watt induced an inningending flyout to slip away from further damage.

In the 3rd, Carlos Mendez reached on an error and scored when Cody Puckett followed with an RBI double to cut it to a 3-2 margin. Two batters later, Wiley lined a game-tying single to center to plate Puckett.

The Dragons took the lead in the 5th. Mike Konstanty lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3 Dayton. Wiley's RBI triple down the right-field line scored Puckett to give Dayton a 5-3 advantage.

The TinCaps threatened in the 8th inning; Cumberland was hit by a pitch and Robertson singled to start the frame, but LHP Aguido Gonzalez retired the next three batters in a row to work out of trouble. He also worked a 1-2-3 9th inning to register the save.

LHP Andrew Bowman (1-6) worked three shutout innings to pick up his first win; Gonzalez nailed down his eighth save. Fort Wayne LHP Mike Watt (2-2) took the loss.

The TinCaps fell to 49-26 overall, 4-1 in the second half. They are now 11-1 against the Dragons this season. Dayton upped its record to 31-44, 3-2 in the half.

Fort Wayne and Dayton (Class-A Cincinnati Reds) continue the four-game series Wednesday at 7:00pm. Fort Wayne RHP Simon Castro (5-4) goes to the mound against Dragons RHP Oscar Castro (2-2).
