PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers will continue league play this weekend, traveling to face the Philadelphia Union at Talen Energy Stadium on Saturday, April 8. Beginning at 4 p.m. (Pacific), the match against the Union will be broadcast live on ROOT SPORTS with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

Going into Saturday's match, the Timbers (3-1-1, 10 pts) are coming off a 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution on April 2, with the team extending its home record to 15-3-3 over its last 21 regular-season matches played at Providence Park, dating back to the 2015 MLS campaign. Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri opened the scoring for Portland in the 12th minute of play, finishing an acrobatic volley into the top left corner, extending his season tally to five goals in five games played.

Saturday's match marks the eighth regular-season fixture between Portland and Philadelphia (0-2-2, 2pts) since the 2011 MLS campaign. In three games played in Chester, Pa., the Timbers have only lost once, drawing Philadelphia twice at Talen Energy Stadium. Overall, Portland has lost just once to the Union, with the Timbers leading the regular-season series 3-1-3. Additionally, seven different players have scored for Portland in the previous seven games between the two clubs, with Valeri and forward Fanendo Adi each scoring in the team's 2-1 win against Philadelphia on Sept. 17, 2016, while Vincent Nogueira leads the Union in goals scored (2) against Portland.

The Union enter Saturday's match after falling to Orlando City SC 2-1 on March 18 and D.C. United 2-1 on April 1. Saturday's game marks the Union's second home match of the season, with the team previously drawing Toronto FC 2-2 at Talen Energy Stadium on March 11. Forward C.J. Sapong leads the team in goals scored this season, finishing three times, while Fabian Herbers, Chris Pontius and Haris Medunjanin have each recorded an assist.

Following the match against Philadelphia, the Timbers will return to Providence Park to play host to Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, April 15. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), the April 15 game will be broadcast live on KPDX, with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

TEAM NEWS Timbers defender Marco Farfan named to MLS Team of the Week for Week 5 Portland Timbers defender Marco Farfan was named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 5 for his performance in the team's 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution on April 2. Playing 90 minutes in his home debut at Providence Park, Farfan led the Timbers with eight successful tackles. So far this season, the Timbers have had at least one player on the MLS Team of the Week or its bench in each of the first five weeks.
