Portland Timbers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers today announced that the club has waived forward Jack McInerney.

"In building our roster for the upcoming season, we've had to make some difficult decisions that provide us with necessary cap space for projected additions," said Gavin Wilkinson, general manager and president of soccer for the Timbers. "We thank Jack for his services to the club, and we wish him all the best as he continues his career."

Acquired by the Timbers ahead of the 2016 MLS campaign, McInerney, 24, appeared in 24 regular-season matches (8 starts) in his sole season with Portland, tallying five goals in regular-season play. Additionally, McInerney appeared in two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches (2 starts) with the Timbers, while also making four appearances in the 2016-17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, recording three goals in both competitions.

"I really enjoyed working with Jack during his time with the club and wish him nothing but the best in the future" said Caleb Porter, head coach of the Timbers.

Prior to joining the Timbers, McInerney made 143 career appearances (89 starts) in six MLS seasons (2010-2015) with the Philadelphia Union, Montreal Impact and Columbus Crew SC after being drafted by Philadelphia as the seventh overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, recording 38 goals during that stretch.
