Portland Timbers News Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Portland Timbers captured a 2-0 road win over D.C. United at RFK Stadium on Saturday, receiving goals from midfielders Rodney Wallace and Darlington Nagbe to help the club extend its MLS-club record unbeaten streak to 11 matches.

Wallace scored midway through the first half against his former club and Nagbe tallied 12 minutes into the second half to provide the scoring for the Timbers. Portland's defense recorded its fifth shutout, and first on the road, this season, holding D.C. United to just two shots on goal to help secure the 2-0 win - the club's largest margin of victory on the road as an MLS side.

The Timbers' 11-game unbeaten streak is the longest in MLS this season and they remain the only club in the league that is unbeaten away from home. With the win, Portland (5-1-7, 22pts) moves into second place in the Western Conference.

Wallace and Nagbe each recorded their fourth goals of the season, forwards Ryan Johnson and Frederic Piquionne and defender Jack Jewsbury each registered assists and goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts logged two saves to help the Timbers to their second road victory on the campaign.

Midfielder Kyle Porter attempted a match-high seven shots and goalkeeper Bill Hamid recorded three saves as D.C. United (1-9-2, 5pts) had its current winless run extended to nine games.

Wallace set a new career-high with his fourth goal of the season in the 21st minute. Jewsbury played the ball centrally from the right side to Piquionne, who then moved the ball across the top of the penalty area before finding Wallace open inside the box. With time to settle the ball, Wallace, who played his first two MLS seasons with United from 2009-10, blasted a left-footed shot from the left side of the area by Hamid inside the near post for his second goal in three matches.

Nagbe doubled the Timbers' lead in the 57th minute. Johnson lofted a pass over the top from just inside the midfield stripe to Nagbe near the top of the box. Nagbe, who forced Hamid into a save with a shot from distance in the first half, did well to control the pass from Johnson, turned and hit a rolling shot by Hamid into the back of the net; it was the Timbers' league-leading 17th second-half goal.

Portland held firm against D.C. United's attack, which attempted 17 shots in the match, including 10 from inside the box. United's two shots on goal was a season-low by a Timbers opponent. Ricketts recorded a save in each half on shots from inside the box to record his fifth shutout of the season.

The Timbers return home to play host to the Wilmington Hammerheads of USL PRO in a third-round match in the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 29, at JELD-WEN Field at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific). Tickets, starting at $15, are available for purchase at the JELD-WEN Field box office and online at www.portlandtimbers.com. A live radio broadcast will be available on 750 The Game and in Spanish on La Pantera 940AM.
