LOWELL, MASS - The Connecticut Tigers defeated the Lowell Spinners, affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, 3-0 to move into a first place tie with Lowell in the Stedler Division standings.

The Tigers and Spinners were in a stalemate for the first five innings with neither team able to push a run across. That changed in the sixth, Jacob Robson grounded a double down the third base line to lead off the frame. After advancing to third on a groundout from Cole Bauml, Robson scored on a Blaise Salter sacrifice fly to center to break the scoreless tie.

The Tigers escaped a tight situation in the bottom of the sixth inning, leading 1-0 Jerry Downs and Andy Perez both reached to start the inning. With runners at first and second and no one out, Jordan Smith was able to maneuver around the jam. Smith got a ground ball back to the mound, getting the first out of the inning on a force out at third. Then got CJ Chatham to ground into a 6-3 double play to end the inning and get out of the threat.

The Tigers added to the lead in the eighth inning with a pair of sacrifice flies. After Will Savage reached on an error and moved to third on a wild pitch. Danny Woodrow delivered another sacrifice fly to center to extend the lead to 2-0. Jacob Robson quickly smoked a triple off the centerfield fence and scored on another Blaise Salter sac-fly to cap the Tigers scoring.

The pitching was on point tonight for the Tigers getting stellar performances in the shutout effort. Austin Sodders started it off with three scoreless innings. Sodders only allowed one baserunner via an error. Sodders continues his streak of now four straight starts without allowing a run.

Jordan Smith earned the victory tonight with a three inning stint out of the bullpen, yielding three hits but no runs. Joe Navilhon then came out of the pen for the seventh and eighth innings and put up a pair of zeroes for the Tigers. Bryan Garcia finished it out with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, locking down his second save of the year.

The Tigers have an opportunity tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. to win the series and take sole possession of first place in the Stedler Division with a victory. Kyle Funkhouser gets the nod for Connecticut.
