Norfolk Tides News Release

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre pounded out a season-high 18 hits to cruise to a 16-2 win over the Tides Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.

After Norfolk combined for 24 runs on 28 hits in wins on Friday and Saturday night, Scranton turned the tables on the Tides by belting 10 extra-base hits as they salvaged a series split. Every RailRider collected a hit and scored a run in the contest, while seven of the nine Scranton batters drove in a run.

The RailRiders jumped on Tides starter Suk-min Yoon (0-4) early, chasing the 27-year-old right-hander from the contest before he could record an out in the fourth inning. Yoon yielded eight runs on 11 hits in three-plus innings, with eight of the hits going for extra bases. Ramon Flores and Antoan Richardson both homered off of Yoon, who had posted a 1.80 ERA over his previous four starts.

The offense was more than enough for RailRiders starter Joel De La Cruz (1-0), who earned the victory in his first outing above the Double-A level. The only run he allowed in six innings of work was a solo home run by Cord Phelps, Phelps' second home run in as many games.

The Tides open up an eight-game road trip Monday night with a 6:35 contest at Slugger Field against the Louisville Bats. T.J. McFarland (0-1, 3.44) is slated to make the start for Norfolk against left-hander Jeff Francis (3-3, 3.72).

Notes: Before Sunday's game, infielder David Adams was outrighted to Double-A Bowie while infielder Buck Britton was promoted to Norfolk from Bowie. Norfolk also activated RHP Evan Meek after he was optioned from Baltimore and LHP Anthony Vasquez was transferred to Double-A Bowie...The Tides wrapped up their homestand with a 4-4 record...Evan Meek retired all four batters he faced in his Norfolk debut...The 16 runs allowed by the Tides were the most Norfolk had yielded in a game since a 21-4 loss vs. Charlotte on April 8, 2013...Ivan De Jesus had an RBI single and has now reached base safely in 13 consecutive games.
