Omaha Lancers News Release
Bloomington, IL - A later 3rd period goal proved to be the difference as the Thunder topped Omaha, 3-2 on Friday night.
Brian Matthews netted his first career USHL goal in the loss. Filip Rydstrom led the Lancers with a pair of assists. The Omaha power play got back on the board going 1-for-5.
Omaha controlled the play in the first period but it was Bloomington who managed to score first. Vlad Dzioshvili's centering attempt from the corner deflected off of goaltender Jake Acton and bounced into the net to give Bloomington the first goal of the game and a 1-0 lead.
The Lancer power play got the team on the board in the second. With the defense sinking down Mitch Perrault walked to the top of the right circle before snapping a quick shot past Gabriel Mollot-Hill to tie the game at 1-1. The teams would stay tied after forty minutes of play.
In the third Bloomington would take the lead once more when August von Ungern-Sternberg broke in from the near blue-line before snapping a shot past Jacob Acton on the blocker side. Omaha would knot it up just under six minutes later when Brian Matthews recorded his first career USHL goal slamming home a rebound to tie it at 2-2. Under two minutes later Marco Reifenberger put home his own rebound to give the Thunder the lead for good.
Jacob Acton made 19 saves on 24 shots taking the loss while Mollot-Hill made 31 saves on 33 shots.
