Thunder Streak Snapped at Four

Trenton, NJ- RHP Vance Worley handled the Thunder on Sunday afternoon as the Phillies avoided a four-game sweep with a 4-0 win at Waterfront Park. Worley allowed just three hits in eight innings to end a Reading six game losing streak. With the loss the Thunder (56-38) fall 0.5 games out of first place behind New Hampshire.

For the third time in the series, Reading scored at least one run in the top of the first inning. This time off RHP D.J. Mitchell the R-Phils picked up three runs in the first courtesy of a three-run homer by Matt Rizzotti to right-center field. Initially the hit was ruled a double off the wall, but after a protest by Reading manager Steve Roadcap and a meeting between the umpires, Rizzotti's hit was ruled a homer.

Mitchell was able to settle down after the first inning, and left after allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out three in seven innings. After the three runs in the first inning, Mitchell allowed just three hits moving forward.

After throwing a complete game shutout against Harrisburg in his last start agiasnt Reading, RHP Vance Worley made quick work of the Thunder. Worley (9-4) tossed eight scoreless, walked one and struck out three in the win.

Trenton will make their first ever trip to Richmond, Virginia, as they will open up a three game series against the Flying Squirrels Monday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Lance Pendleton takes the ball for the Thunder, while Richmond will counter with RHP Michael Main. All the action can be heard on 107.7 FM or online at www.trentonthunder.com.
