Thunder signs rookie Coghlan

June 1, 2005 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder added their first new face today, signing rookie center Ryan Coghlan.

A 21-year-old native of Okotoks, Alberta, Coghlan (pronounced COG-linn) joins the Thunder from the British Columbia Hockey League’s Penticton Vees, where he led the team last season with 25 goals and 59 games played. He also finished second on the Vees with 30 assists, 55 points and 134 penalty minutes.

“Ryan is a relentless worker at both ends of the ice”, said Penticton head coach Bruno Campese. “I expect that he will be a very solid player at the CHL level.”

The 6-2, 200-pound Coghlan led the Vees with two hat tricks last season and also recorded 11 multiple-point games, including one five-point effort. Prior to joining the Vees, Coghlan spent three seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he was used primarily as a checking-line forward. Coghlan is the third Thunder player signed for the 2005-06 season, joining veteran forwards Jason Duda and Travis Clayton under contract.

The Thunder also presented head coach Derek Laxdal’s game-worn ties to Forever Crowned Outreach Ministry, a local organization which helps former inmates make the transition back into society. Dillard’s donated new ties to Coach Laxdal to wear behind the bench last season. A total of 30 ties, one for every home game, were donated to the charity.

Season tickets and corporate packages for the 2005-06 season are on sale now. To order your tickets or for more information, call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL or visit our website at www.wichitathunder.com.
